Lichens of Lough Corrib

To increase the awareness of our project we took the following steps:

• We entered our project in to the Young Scientist exhibition which took place on the first week of January of this year. In the competition we were highly commended by the judges.
• On the open night of our school (St. gerald's College Castlebar), held in March 2009 we displayed our project around the school, to let parents and students know what the school offers and what the students can get involved in. This was a great opportunity to raise awareness about lichens.
• We were on a local radio show (Castlebar Radio CRC), about the environment speaking about Lichens.
• At the moment our project is on display in the local library in Castlebar and we were presented with a book about the county Mayo for our work on the lichen project.
• We have launched a website to raise awareness about Lichens in Ireland.
• We have sent a letter to the Enviromental editors of the national and local papers to raise awareness of our Internet site.
